Anyone and everyone is welcome to submit a story to the podcast, regardless of your age, background or writing experience. On this page you can learn the key details about the process and find our Submission Form.
There are only a couple of major criteria to keep in mind:
- - Your story should be short, meaning roughly 100 to 1,000 words;
- - Your story must be true, meaning nonfiction, reflecting your real, lived experience;
- - Your story should be shared sincerely, meaning written in your own words and expressing your own voice.
That’s it. As far as subject matter is concerned, nothing is off limits. (Obviously, hate speech has no place here, which should go without saying.)
Guidelines
These particulars may be a little boring but please read them carefully before submitting:
- - Editing & Approval. Submissions may be lightly edited. We’ll discuss any changes with you before your story goes anywhere near a microphone. If you’re not happy with the edits, you’re free to withdraw your submission, no questions asked.
- - Credit & Attribution. We will always credit you however you prefer. If you don’t want your full name to be read aloud, we can use just your first name, your initials, a pen name or keep it entirely anonymous.
- - Rights & Permissions. By submitting, you grant us non-exclusive permission to read your story aloud on the podcast and reproduce it in related materials (like show notes, transcripts or social media posts.) You retain full ownership and all other rights to your story.
- - Editorial Process. We promise to read everything submitted to us. That said, we may only be able to reply to contributors whose stories we are taking forward in the editorial process.
- - Inclusion & Repeat Submissions. Submitting a story does not guarantee inclusion on the podcast. However, you are very welcome to submit more than once, and we welcome follow-up stories and reflections.
- - Compensation. This is a small, independent project, and we’re currently unable to offer payment. We’re hugely grateful for all contributions, and hope that the joy of writing and sharing your story is its own reward.
